replace files from mksysb when all commands are gone

Question:

Customer issued the 'rm -r' command in /usr/bin. Users were using an
application which locked up. They had to reboot and the system hung
at 553. They need to know how to restore /usr/bin from a mksysb backup
tape without the tar command since it was part of /usr/bin.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Response:

I was able to restore /usr/bin from a mksysb using the pax command
as follows:

getrootfs hdisk0 sh
mount /dev/hd2 /usr
tctl -f/dev/rmt0 rewind
tctl -f/dev/rmt0.1 fsf 3
pax -rvf/dev/rmt0.1 -pmop ./usr/bin

If a mksysb backup tape is used, and the system image was created with
a block size other than 512, an I/O error may occur.
In this case, a SIPO tape can be used to do the restore and after the
system is booted normally in multiuser mode, you can restore any required
files from the mksysb tape.
