restoring mksysb fails after disk replacement with pax error

Question:

CE replaced failing disk (hdisk0) which was part of rootvg. They have
a current mksysb. There are 3 internal disks and 4 external. One of
the internal and one of the external disks make up rootvg. When
trying to restore the mksysb, everything starts off fine (i.e.
filesystems are created). After a few files restore, they receive the
errors:

pax: file_name : no such file or directory pax: file_name : no space
left on device

A mksysb from another system restores fine. All seven disks show up
as destination disk and there does not appear to be a SCSI address
conflict.

Response:

It appears that the problem is being caused by files in a filesystem
which is part of another volume group. This filesystem is mounted in
the /home filesystem (i.e. /home/informix). Apparently mksysb backed
up the informix filesystem mounted under /home and is now unable to
restore the files that are in it.

Other filesystems seem to be restoring properly. The pax message is
being displayed for all files in filesystems which aren't in rootvg.
The user can ignore the errors and continue the install since none of
the files that are not being restored are needed by the operating system.
After the installation is complete, the required volume group can be
created/imported/varied on and the filesystems mounted so that the
missing files can then be extracted off of the mksysb tape and restored
into their proper place.
