sna licensing question about "user" sessions
QUESTION:
An IBM Sales Rep. is ordering IBM Communication Server for AIX (5765-652)
for her customer. She needs to know how it is licensed. Specifically
what is meant by "user sessions".
ANSWER:
I explained that "user" sessions are sessions that
the customer's programs can use. Regardless of whether it is
the lu2 lu-lu session for 3270 display, or the independent lu6.2
user mode session used for file transfer, only the "user" sessions
are counted against the license.
There are other sessions that I call "system" sessions like:
lu2 sscp-lu sessions, or independent lu6.2 sessions with cpsvcmg
or snasvcmg modes. These sessions are NOT used by the customer's
programs. They are used by SNA itself to establish and maintain
the "user" sessions. These "system" sessions are not counted
against the number of licensed "user" sessions.
