offline 01D2 - move error

Question:

Env:
  AIX 4.1.5
  RISC SP
  Tape 7331-205
  sysback 4.1.1.9
  

Problem:
  During a backup using sysback.  When sysback hit the
  end of tape, the customer got this message on the
  console of the 7331:  offline 01D2 - move error
  Also the tape ejected, but another was not put in the
  drive.

Action Taken:
  I had the customer put the tape drive in random mode
  tapeutil -f /dev/smc0 move -s 17 -d 23   - that worked
  tctl -f /dev/rmt2 offline
  tapeutil -f /dev/smc0 move -s 23 -d 17  - that worked
  I had the customer put the tape drive back into 
  sequential mode.  
  tctl -f /dev/rmt2 offline
    No errors and the next tape was put back into the
    unit
