Question:

Env: 
  AIX 4.2.1
  RISC E20
  sysback.4.1.1.9

Problem
When I run this command to recreate a filesystem:

remakevg -lqf /myback/FS.machine.etc lv00

It appears to work fine, but I get a message telling me that:

The process completed successfully. However, there was an error
in creating one or more logical volumes or filesystems. 
Refer to the error messages above for details.

There are no messages above, and I don't see any problems.

The message is coming because createfs returns a '2', though
I don't see where you are specifically sending this, in fact,
the whole createfs function is run because if I put a 
'return 0' at the very end, everything seems to work fine.  
Where is the '2' coming from?  

Also, when I turn on debugging, there is a message about not 
being able to cat /tmp/date that I think is coming from 
sysinstall being calling in normal mode.

Fixed both in sysback.rte 4.1.2.
