/usr/lpp/bosinst/bi_main[198]: test: argument expected

Question:

Env:
  AIX 4.2
  RISC 390
  sysback 4.1.1.4

Problem:
I create a diskette with just this information on it
  a volume group description stuff

When I booted from tape with the diskette in the drive I got
  this message:

  ----------------------------------------
  Restoring Customer Installation Diskette
  ----------------------------------------

x ./signature
x ./tmp/...vginfo
/usr/lpp/bosinst/bi_main[198]: test: argument expected

When I choose option 3 "Install with Current System Settings"
It then read from the tape and bypassed my changes on the diskette.

When I created the diskette in smit here is what I did:

/usr/sbin/mksbinstdskt -f /dev/fd0 -v /usr/lpp/sysback/newfile

I got these messages:

Backing up to /dev/fd0
Cluster 9216 bytes (18 blocks).
Volume 1 on /dev/fd0
Volume 1 on /dev/fd0
a 8 ./signature
a 4438 ./tmp/...vginfo
total size: 4446
Done at Fri May 16 14:10:47 1997; 18 blocks on 1 volume(s)
rm: cannot remove directory /tmp/11018dsktdir

How do I tell the system that the information is on the diskette
loaded to hard drive and not to read the tape for that information

Action Taken:
Opened up a problem record with the developer

Response:

This is fixed in 4.1.1.5. Keep in mind, however, that since we still
have to extract the vginfo file from the install media because only
then do we check the server and or set tape block size and position to
rootvg images, etc. In other words, there will be the illusion that
we're ignoring the VGINFO file on the diskette, but if you then go to
edit the vginfo file, you'll see that it was the info from the
diskette. I dont see an easy anternative
