When get into "smit" , the screen locked.

Question:

The screen displays "init smit..." on the bottom when attempting to 
invoke smit, but the terminal gets hung.  Also, neither man nor info
work.  Smit does not appear to be able to find it's help files.


Response:

This appears to be a case of the cd having been removed and reinserted
w/out benefit of unmounting the filesystem.  Then cd's (change
directories) into the CDROM filesystems hang and stuff like that.

User will reboot and get back to us (this is the only cure I've ever
found for this).
