tty on the 128-port adapter coming up Defined instead of Available

Question:

On a Model 580 with a 128-port controller. One terminal came up as
"Defined" instead of "Available". Our system is at AIX 3.2.3e.
What is wrong?

Response:

The problem was occurring on tty60, so we tried the following:

        1. odmget -q "name=tty60" CuDv > odm.out
        2. odmdelete -q "name=tty60" -o CuDv
        3. vi odm.out - change 'status' from 0 to 1
        4. odmadd odm.out
        5. odmget -q "name=tty60" CuDv - to make sure it was changed

Then we removed and re-added the tty (though SMIT). After re-adding the tty,
we were able to get a login prompt on the port.

This is a known defect, although I have only seen it reported for printers
in the past and not ttys. This defect is documented in APAR IX36569. You should
consider upgrading to 3.2.4 in the near future to pick up the fix for this
APAR.
