Can you connect a 3480 tape subsystem to a RS/6000?

I have a RS/6000 to which I would like to connect a 3480 tape
subsystem.  Is this possible?  If so, what kind of hardware and
software modifications would I need to make this work?

Response:

You might be interested in the S/370 Channel Emulator/A, which allows
connection of S/370 tape or printer units, inluding 3480 tape drives,
to the 6000.  Full description of the adapter, and directions to
programming support are in the adapter announcement letter, 193-131.

   requires  AIX ptfs U405589 and U403146.

   Specific software device driver support for printers is
   required and can be obtained via the following separately-orderable
   software product from the Pennant Systems (TM) Company:
   o   IBM AIX Print Service Facility/6000 (5765-140)

   Specific software device driver support for tape drives is
   also required and can be obtained separately via the following
   Programming Request for Price Quotation (PRPQ) offering supplied by
   ADSTAR (TM):
   o   PRPQ P83033 (ADSTAR)

Adapter sells for $3500, PRPQ $2500.
