Why can' t I remove a JFS (and the LV)?

Question:

Trying to remove a JFS and the LV so I can build it again, only
bigger. When I try to remove it, I get this message:

Device is already mounted or cannot be unmounted

Why?

Response:

This is usually caused by some user being logged into the filesystem
in question - check this w/ the pwd command for each login session.
The coolest trap here is when a user has logged into the filesystem
that is to be removed, su'ed to another id, and then changed
directories again. This can be hard to find.

Anyway, another user on an XStation actually had invoked the
application that had been installed on that LV. The user logged out,
and the LV was successfully removed.
