vmstat output on SMP - 1 in 'b' column with 0 in 'wa' column

PROBLEM: Customer sees a '1' constantly in the block queue
("b" column from 'vmstat') with a corresponding %iowait
of '0' ("wa" column from 'vmstat'). Machine is an
8-way R40. Customer feels the block queue should not
be showing 1's, rather should be showing 0's. Why do
SMP machines show a constant '1' in the block queue?

ANSWER: The "lrud" daemon is needed to implement the
page-replacment mechanism on the multi-processor box.
This daemon normally would appear blocked, thus constant
1's in the "b" column of 'vmstat' on an idle SMP system.
