msksyb and sybase raw logical volumes
Question:
How do you retain /dev/lv entries for sybase raw lv's?
When the customer restores his system the /dev/lv entries for
his sybase raw logical volumes have the wrong permissions;
'root.system' and they need to be 'sybase.sybase'.
.Answer:
When a mksysb is restored the /dev entries are recreated with
and have the permissions of root and system. Because the
sybase raw lv's need to have the user.group as sybase.sybase,
these entries will need to be immediately - manually changed
before the sybase database can be used.
.Some admins create a job in the rc.local file which runs a
chmod on the specific lv entries and place the rc.local file
in the inittab so that the system automaticly sets up the
sybase /dev/lv entries correctly at the beginning of a
system reboot.
.This function is working as designed.
