I get a "A" at the top of every print job coming from my PC

ENV:
AIX 3.2.5
7012-32H

DESC:
We are printing from a DOS PC running a software package called
ICE10 to AIX. The print jobs print but in the top left of each
print job we see "\^A"

ACT:

Used the lsvirprt command to alter a few attributes of the virtual
printer:

Tried setting _j=! so that no initialization string is sent to the
printer at the beginning of the job and then resent the job from the
PC, but still getting the \^A at the top.

Set _d=p to set the data type = passthru unmodified and resent the job -
no garbage at the top. The job looks fine. AIX was formatting and
filtering a job that had already been formatted by the PC and filtering
out some of the escape sequences that were commands for the printer.
Of course, with _d=p this now makes jobs coming from AIX directly no
longer be formatted (no CR added to LF).

We set _d back to _d=a
We configured the application on the PC to use the command:
lp -dqueuename -o -dp

So locally submitted jobs on AIX are formatted, but jobs the PC queues
request pass-thru mode on each job. This seems to be working fine.
