Arctic Card: 3494 w/ more than 4 tapes drives, LAN attached.

Question:
I have a LAN attatched 3494 and I want to put more than
four tape drives on it.  The CE is telling me that I need
to purchase the Arctic Card, why? what does it do?

Since this is using 3590s, we need to look at the 3494-L12 manual,
we found the following under the FC \#5228 section:

1.  For each tape drive, you need a tape control unit connection.
Since we have five drives, we will need either FC \#5228 or FC \#5229.
FC \#5229 adds the extra connections, but FC\#5228 converts the four
connects which normally would go to a tty connected rs6k machine into
connects which could go to the tape drives. 

2.  Because this is a LAN attached system, the tty connection ports
are all free and all four of them can be used once they are converted
to tape control connections (with FC 5228, which is the arctic card)
