lpd daemon is dying - queues with multiple queue devices

ENV:
        AIX 4.1.4
        7011-250
        PSF for AIX v2.1
        IBM 3130 printer
DESC:
        We are running lpd on our AIX 4.1.4 model 250.  From time
        to time we are seeing the lpd daemon die.  We can restart
        it without problem but it keeps stopping.  
ACT:
        Checked for common causes:

        Plenty of room in /var 

        Checked the output of errpt

        When the lpd daemon halts your errpt shows:

        detecting module srchevn.c line 265

        This sounds like the problem IX56913 - problems when a queue
        has multiple queue devices which with PSF you definitely have.
        The problem is not with PSF but when a job is sent to a queue
        that has multiple queue devices without specifying which queue
        device to use.  PTF addressing this APAR is U442701
