3dmon cpu0 statistics not displayed for AIX 3.2 system
Desc:
RISC/6000 @ AIX 3.2.5.1 has PTX v1.2 installed(both the agent and manager)
'3dmon -c cpu' has missing data.
Action:
Determined that 3dmon is working as designed. On an AIX 3.2 system, the
only CPU/cpu statistics that can be monitored are as follows:
user
kern
wait
idle
uticks
kticks
wticks
iticks
of which only user, kern, and wait come up with '3dmon -c cpu'.
On an AIX v4 system, PTX provides the following /CPU/cpu/ statistics:
user
kern
wait
idle
uticks
kticks
wticks
iticks
pswitch
syscall
read
write
fork
exec
readch
writech
iget
namei
dirblk
Compared to a AIX v4 system, a v3 system is missing:
pswitch
syscall
read
write
fork
exec
readch
writech
iget
namei
dirblk
from the /CPU/cpu/ statistics. However, the above statistics are
available under different headings on a v3 system.
AIX v4 ---> AIX v3
----------------- --------------
/CPU/cpu/pswitch /Proc/pswitch
/CPU/cpu/syscall /Syscall/total
/CPU/cpu/read /Syscall/read
/CPU/cpu/write /Syscall/write
/CPU/cpu/fork /Syscall/fork
/CPU/cpu/exec /Syscall/exec
/CPU/cpu/readch /SysIO/readch
/CPU/cpu/writech /SysIO/writech
/CPU/cpu/iget /FS/iget
/CPU/cpu/namei /FS/namei
/CPU/cpu/dirblk /FS/dirblk
* Note: The same statistic headings listed above under AIX v3 are also
duplicated under AIX v4 under the same exact headings as well as
under the /CPU/cpu/ heading.
It is possible to edit a copy of the 3dmon.cf file in /usr/lpp/perfmgr on
a v3 system so that the same information is displayed for a remote v3 or
v4 system when running '3dmon -c cpu' and placing it in /etc/perf.
For example:
"3dmon.cf file"
.
.wildcard: cpu hosts \# processors on remote hosts
CPU/*/user
CPU/*/kern
CPU/*/wait
Proc/pswitch
Syscall/total
Syscall/read
Syscall/write
Syscall/fork
Syscall/exec
SysIO/readch
SysIO/writech
FS/iget
FS/namei
FS/dirblk
