qprt/lp fails from remote system to newly setup QMS 1725 printer

to QMS 1725 printer.  No errors, but nothing prints.  This
RS/6000 is a new install.

DESC: Can submit jobs to QMS1725 queue, but nothing prints.  Printer
is ethernet attached and contains a network card.

ACT: Initially thought caller was printing to a remote queue and had her
add the hostname to the /etc/hosts.lpd file.  Later realized it was 
a local printer.  However, since we could not print at first we tried
setting this up as a remote queue to another system where the same
QMS 1725 was successfully working, but had no success.  The other 
system that this worked from was a RS/6000 with AIX 4.1.3.

Called QMS printer support at 334/633-4500 and began speaking with 
QMS support rep John Bennett.  The QMS education began:

QMS 1725 printer has an AIX diskette included when the printer contains
a "Classic" network card (only one protocal supported) or "Crownet"
network card (4 protocals supported simultaneously).  These come in
ethernet or token ring varieties.

The UNIX/AIX diskette must be inserted and the directory switched to
/usr/qmsoft (assuming it already exists).  Run ./Qinstall to install the
QMS software.  You must enter AIX for the operating system as BSD is 
the default operating system on the utility.  After selecting this
it will attempt to cc (compile) some programs.  If you do not have a 
C compiler installed it will error out and the install will fail - and
you will not be able to print.  THIS ERROR OCCURRED FOR CALLER, CORINE.

TO TEST THE QMS 1725 PRINTER WITH A NETWORK CARD:
ftp to the hostname of the printer. (The printer should have IP address)
When prompted for username, press enter.
When prompted for password, press enter.
Enter: put /usr/qmsoft/prtpost.ps (prtpost.ps is a qms supplied testfile)
This should print as the printer defaults to interpret print stream so
it should print text, PCL, Postscript, etc.

TO CREATE A FLAT FILE WITH THE QMS PRINTER STATUS TO USE FOR PRINT TEST:
From the /usr/qmsoft subdirectory:
./qef -s savetofilename -h hostnameofprinter -f prtpost.ps
use enq/lp/lpr/qprt to submit the savetofilename text to the printer

As of 12/13/95 the latest QMS UNIX/AIX utility is 2.10.
