NetView/6000 : Can I install trapgend without doing a remote install?
Env : AIX 4.1 & NV V4.1 on various models of RS6000s.
Des : Can I put trapgend on a firewall RS6000s without doing
the remote install?
ACT: This can be done via the following procedure.
Create the following directories on the remote system.
/usr/OV
/usr/OV/bin
/usr/OV/log
/usr/OV/sockets
/usr/OV/pids
/usr/OV/lrf
then change permissions to the following
chmod 755 /usr/OV
chmod 755 /usr/OV/bin
chmod 755 /usr/OV/pids
chmod 777 /usr/OV/log
chmod 777 /usr/OV/lrf
chmod 777 /usr/OV/sockets
Then copy the following files from the netview system.
/usr/OV/bin/trapgend
/usr/OV/bin/trap-notify
/usr/OV/bin/nv6000_subagent
/usr/OV/bin/trap-notify.add
/usr/OV/lrf/trapgend.lrf
The permissions for these files should be
544 /usr/OV/bin/trapgend
544 /usr/OV/bin/trap-notify
555 /usr/OV/bin/nv6000_subagent
544 /usr/OV/bin/trap-notify.add
444 /usr/OV/lrf/trapgend.lrf
Then run the following command on the remote system
from the /usr/OV/bin directory.
nv6000_subagent public \ install
This will add the necessary entries in /etc/snmpd.conf and
/etc/snmpd.peers. It will also add an entry into the
errnotify odm file. After this it will make sure snmpd is running
and then start trapgend.
You can test to see if it is working and reporting to your
netview machine by doing the following.
echo "=AA8AB241:\\nAlert=True" | /usr/bin/errupdate
errlogger test
Then check the /usr/OV/log/trapd.log file on your netview
machine or watch the events display to see the card
come up. The message you type for errlogger will not appear
in the trap. You would have to customize this trap to
display this information.
