NetView - How the node's symbol label is determined

Question:

How the node's symbol label is determined

ipmap uses some subset of the value in the "HOSTNAME" field in the IP
topology database for the node label. If the value in the HOSTNAME field
is an IP address, then ipmap uses the entire IP address as the symbol
label. If the values in the HOSTNAME field is a name, then ipmap
uses the text up to the first "." as the the symbol label.

At one time, ipmap assumed that if the first character in the
HOSTNAME field was a digit, then the value was an IP address.
But, some customers had actual names that began with numbers
(like 6611router.raleigh.ibm.com), so we changed the code in
a recent PTF to check all the characters, and if any letters
are found, we consider the value a name. You may want to get
the latest V3 PTF if you have hostnames like this.
