Question:
there are some option about netmon where I can't find an understandable
information. The help information from SMIT isn't enough |
What means:
- Ring bit-swapping storage flag
- Secondary addressing support
- Unnumbered IP address support
- Ignore source route bit in physical address
In which circumstances is it necessary to use one or more of them ?
Answer:
- Ring bit-swapping storage flag
Just take the default on this one unless you see a lot of
"Mismatch of Link Address" errors that you can't explain.
If you get those errors, you might change this value to
"ignore".
- Secondary addressing support
If you use secondary addressing, you definitely need to have this
set to YES. If you don't use secondary addressing, then you want
to have this set as NO, because netmon generates extra network
traffic when checking for secondary addressing.
- Unnumbered IP address support
If you use unnumbered IP addresses, you definitely need to have this set
to YES. I you don't use unnumbered IP addresses, then you want
to have this set as NO, because netmon generates extra network
traffic when checking for unnumbered IP addresses.
- Ignore source route bit in physical address
If you use Cabletron Hubs, set this to YES, otherwise, set this
to NO.
*****
If you need information about secondary addressing, bit-swapping,
source routing, or other TCP/IP concepts, it might be best to
consult a book like "Internetworking with TCP/IP" by Douglas E.
Comer.
