NetView - Events Slow in Appearing At Startup

Question:

When I first start NetView, it can take a long time for the
 events window to start displaying events.  How can I improve
 performance?

Answer:
 A Sometimes this can be caused by slow name resolution.  In other
 words, if the name server is taking a long time to resolve names,
 events can take a while to appear on the control desk.  You can
 try accelerating the rate at which your name server "gives up" by
 setting two environment variables as follows:

       RES_RETRY=1
       RES_TIMEOUT=1
