NetView - the control desk, tool palette, and navigation tree.

Question:

The Tool Bar and the Navigation tree can be configured in three different
ways:

  1) Active upon User Interface Start-Up

     This is the default setting.

  2) Active but iconized upon User Interface Start-Up

To set this up, set the following two settings in the
     /usr/OV/app-defaults/OVw file:

       OVw*toolShellIconify: True
       OVw*navTreeShellIconify: True

If you do this, there will be buttons in the lower-left
hand corner of the user interface that you can use to
bring up the iconified Tool Palette and/or Navigation Tree.

The settings listed above can also be made directly to your
.Xdefaults file. The setting in the .Xdefaults file overrides
the setting in the /usr/OV/app-defaults/OVw file. Users often
prefer to put the entries in the .Xdefaults file because
     customized settings in the /usr/OV/app-defaults/OVw
file are overwritten when PTFs are applied, but
the settings in the .Xdefaults file are not.

  3) Not active for this user interface session

To set this up, set the following two settings in the
     /usr/OV/app-defaults/OVw file:

       OVw*toolPalettePresent: False
       OVw*navTreePresent: False

If you do this, there will be NO buttons in the lower-left
hand corner of the user interface to bring up these
applications. You must stop and start the user interface
with the two above options set to true to get the buttons
to appear on the user interface.

The settings listed above can also be made directly to your
.Xdefaults file. The setting in the .Xdefaults file overrides
the setting in the /usr/OV/app-defaults/OVw file. Users often
prefer to put the entries in the .Xdefaults file because
     customized settings in the /usr/OV/app-defaults/OVw
file are overwritten when PTFs are applied, but
the settings in the .Xdefaults file are not.

The Control Desk can be configured in two different ways:

  1) Active upon User Interface Start-Up

     This is the default setting

  2) Not active upon User Interface Start-Up

To enable this setting, remove the "-Initial" from the following
     file:

       /usr/OV/registration/C/ovsnmp/nvevents

The Control Desk can be brought up at any time by running any
application that uses the Control Desk.

If you install a new NetView for AIX PTF, your customized
registration file may be replaced with a new one. If this
happens, simply remove the "-Initial" flag from the new
     registration file.

In addition to these two configurations, you can also set Xresources
that customize the size of the control desk and whether or not the
control desk is attached to the Main window.

To automatically detach the control desk from the main window,
     set the following resource:

       nvevents.outside : True

To adjust the default size, change the following two resources:

       nvevents.widthMain : 800
       nvevents.heightMain : 500
