Need help configuring NFS over AIX ATM.

Question:

We've successfully configured a PVC connection between our test systems.
We can ping, telnet and ftp on both systems to each other.  When we try
to start NFS, we get the error messages:

     cannot register service: RPC: 1832-008 Timed out
                  rpc.statd:1831-119 unable to register (SM_PROG,..)
     cannot register service: RPC: 1832-008 Timed out
                  rpc.lockd: 1831-057 unable to register(NLM_PROG,.)

Response:

Since you can ping and telnet, TCP/IP's connecting just fine.  The error
message you mentioned probably means portmap isn't running.  Check for
it this way:

- execute the command:  ps -ef | grep portmap
  (I don't expect that it will be running)
- check the status (active, inactive, etc) with: lsscr -s portmap
- to start portmap, use the fastpath:  smitty _nfs 
  select "Configure NFS on this System"
  
This should solve your problem.  Once everything's running on PVCs,
you're going to switch to SVCs.  You've read the July/Aug '95 /AIXtra
article on our new AIX ATM SVC support.  We reviewed the information 
must be pre-configured at the switch.  You will also need the full ATM
address of your ARP Server for SMIT.  NFS should work just fine in the
SVC environment.
