Volume group called "log" corrupted at boot
Question:
Env: 3.2.5
Desc: The user has a volume group that will not varyon at boot. When
she tries to manually vary it on, she gets error:
0516-082 varyonvg: Unable to access a special device file.
Execute redefinevg and synclvodm to build correct environment.
The name of the volume group is "log"; it has never been able
to auto-varyon.
Action: There is a special device file called "log" in /dev; it has
permissions, ownership, and other characteristics as such:
srw-rw-rw- 1 root system 0 Jun 20 14:03 /dev/log
(output from "ls -l /dev/log").
This is a special socket file recreated at boot if missing. Any
logical volume or volume group should avoid this name, as this
file will be set to the permissions, etc., shown above at boot.
We exported the customer's volume group, reimported it as "dblog",
and once we rebooted the machine it auto-varied on successfully.
Next: Close.
