How to install locked products from SDS (Showcase) CD?

Question:

Customer received a Software Development Solutions For AIX V 3.2 CD,
Volume 6. He wants to install SNA Server V2.1

Response:

ACT:

\# cd /usr/cdrom/sws
\# find . -name .toc -print
  ./.toc
  ./cmvc/installp/.toc
  ./db2/intallp/.toc
  ./forgexp1/installp/.toc
  ./kapc/installp/.toc
  ./kapf/installp/.toc
  ./vast2/installp/.toc
  ./vde/installp/.toc
  ./vq/installp/.toc

\# installp -lqd . > /tmp/disk2.contents
\# view /tmp/disk2.contents
No SNA product on this disk
\# cd /
\# umount /dev/cd0
Now he will go put in the other CD
\# mount /dev/cd0
\# installp -lqd /usr/cdrom/sws > /tmp/disk1.contents
  No entries for SNA

Response:

ACT: After getting this CD, the instructions are on the CD
(assuming the CD is mounted on /usr/cdrom/sws per the instructions)
and are in /usr/cdrom/sws/readme. I've included the file in this
item for future reference. See the cdtty command information below
for installing locked license products.

 PRODUCTS LOCKED USING NETLS PASSWORDS
 -------------------------------------

 1.0 Ordering Information
 -------------------------

Ordering information for IBM products can be obtained by contacting
your local IBM Dealer, IBM Business Partner, IBM Software Marketing
 Specialist, or IBM Marketing Representative.

 1.1 How to Order Products
 --------------------------

To order these IBM products, contact your local IBM Dealer, IBM
Business Partner, IBM Software Marketing Specialist, or IBM
 Marketing Representative.

In the United States, you can also call IBM Direct at 800-IBM-CALL
(800-426-2255) and ask for department RM040. In Canada, you can
also call 800-565-SW4U (800-565-7948). In other countries, call
your local IBM office for the IBM Direct telephone number in your
 country.

 2.0 Locked Licensed Products
 -----------------------------

These products are "locked" using the Network Licensing System
(NetLS). You must obtain a NetLS password to "unlock" these
products prior to using them. Passwords can be obtained by
contacting your IBM Dealer, IBM Business Partner, or the IBM
Registration Center for your country or geography.

 2.1 Obtaining Trial NetLS Passwords
 ------------------------------------

Trial passwords are available and can be obtained by contacting
your IBM Dealer, IBM Business Partner, or IBM Registration Center,
 or are supplied with products.

The IBM Registration Center provides support for CD Showcase and
for password installation problems for IBM products.

 2.2 General Registration Information
 -------------------------------------

You can contact your IBM Registration Center by telephone,
 facsimile or electronic mail.

The Registration Center will send you password information by
facsimile or electronic mail. Passwords can be issued over the
telephone, however facsimile or electronic mail is a more accurate
 method of receiving them.

NOTE: Internet electronic mail addresses may not be available in
 every country.

2.3 Before You Request a NetLS Password
 ----------------------------------------

Please complete the information on the IBM Product Registration
Information Form before contacting your IBM Dealer, IBM Business
Partner, or IBM Registration Center. A blank form is supplied in
this file. The form can also be found in the file
 "/usr/cdrom/sws/regform.txt" on the CD-ROM.

The product and machine information are required each time a
 product is registered.

 2.3.1 NetLS Target ID
 ----------------------

The IBM Product Registration Information Form requires you to
supply a NetLS target ID. The target ID identifies the machine
node where the software is installed (for nodelocked passwords) or
the machine node where the NetLS license server is installed (for
 concurrent-access passwords).

NOTE: The NetLS target ID is not required for a product that is
locked using SDCS. Products which have separate features that are
locked using SDCS may still require a NetLS target ID for the main
 product code.

There are two ways to obtain the target ID (typically the CPU
planar ID) from a running system:

 1. Use the NetLS "ls_targetid" command

 2. Use the AIX operating system "uname -m" command.

NOTE: Both commands retrieve the target ID but in a different
format. If you have not yet installed NetLS but want to request
passwords for a specific machine, it is possible to use the "uname
-m" command output. The information returned is unique for each
 NetLS server node.

 2.3.1.1 Example of ls_targetid Output
 --------------------------------------

   \# /usr/cdrom/sws/netls/ls_targetid
PREFERRED NetLS Target ID (CPU Planar ID)
               -----------------------------------------
                       1058310

ALTERNATE Target ID (Link Level Address)
               ---------------------------------------------
                       9152B29

2.3.1.2 Example of uname -m Output
 -----------------------------------

   \# uname -m
   000105831000

 2.3.1.3 Converting uname -m Output
 -----------------------------------

To convert "uname -m" output into "ls_targetid" format, remove the
leading zeros and two trailing zeros:

   000 \<-- 1058310 --> 00

3.0 IBM Product Registration Information Form
 ----------------------------------------------

The product and machine information on this form must be supplied
for each product registration. Please have the information ready
before contacting your IBM Dealer, IBM Business Partner, or IBM
 Registration Center.

You need one form for each target NetLS server.

The following program information is provided to help you complete
 the registration form:

 4.0 Installing NetLS Passwords
 -------------------------------

There are different types of NetLS passwords. The IBM Registration
Center will advise you about the type of passwords that they
supply. Most trial passwords are nodelocked.

 4.1 Installing Nodelocked Passwords
 ------------------------------------

Nodelocked licensing allows the use of the product on a single
workstation for which the password was created until the license
expires. You do not need to install a NetLS license server or have
the workstation attached to a network to use this type of
 licensing.

 To install a nodelocked password:

 1. Log in as root or enter the "su" command.

 2. Edit file "/usr/lib/netls/conf/nodelock" using any text editor.
The nodelock file can have comment lines beginning with a "\#"
character. Comments are highly recommended to keep track of
multiple password entries. There are four parts to the product
password entry, each separated by a space:

     a. The vendor ID
     b. The product password that enables the nodelock license
     c. The license annotation, contained within double quotes.
This field is optional; if blank, enter two double quotes.
     d. The product version, contained within double quotes.

 3. Transfer the vendor ID, product password, license annotation,
and product version that you received to a blank line in the
file. Each part must be entered exactly as it appears on the
form received from an IBM Registration Center.

Here is a sample nodelock license file, with a password that
 expires in October:

   \# C Set ++ for AIX, Version 2.1 Nodelocked 1995/09/13 1995/10/31
   5da54a553b4c.02.09.15.31.05.00.00.00 zred8uihs8njanabtnaa "" "2"

 4.2 Installing Concurrent-Access Passwords
 -------------------------------------------

Concurrent-access licensing allows several users to access the
software simultaneously. However, you need to install a NetLS
server and other software to use this type of licensing.

Instructions for installing concurrent-access passwords are
supplied in the NetLS documentation on the CD-ROM. See the NetLS
product in the CD Showcase catalog for more information.

IBM products and features locked using SDCS can be unlocked from
the CD Showcase graphical user interface or by executing the
 "cdtty" program on the CD-ROM.

Unlocking these products allows users to gain access to them. The
unlocking process uses an access key to decrypt the software and
copies the installable software to a directory on the hard disk.
The destination directory is selectable by the user. Locked
software must be unlocked before it is installed.

NOTE: The unlocking process does not expand the filesystem if the
amount of free disk space is inadequate.

8.1 Unlocking Products Using CD Showcase
 -----------------------------------------

You must select the "Configure" pushbutton from the product catalog
to set the destination directory for copied files before unlocking
a locked product. Locked IBM products can be unlocked by selecting
a product in the CD Showcase catalog and then selecting the button
labelled "Unlock product." A dialog box will appear. Enter your
customer ID and product access key, then select "Copy" or "Cancel"
to unlock and copy a product or exit the dialog box.

8.2 Unlocking Products Using the cdtty Command
 -----------------------------------------------

To unlock a locked IBM product from the command line, you have to
execute the "cdtty" command on the CD-ROM as root user.

Insert and mount the CD-ROM, following the supplied instructions,
then enter "cd /usr/cdrom/sws/showcase" to change to the CD
 Showcase directory.

The "cdtty" command line options are:

 ./cdtty
Help is printed to the standard output device (stdout).

 ./cdtty -help
           Help is printed to stdout.

 ./cdtty -list
A list of products is printed to stdout. Each product
has a number in front of it, which is required by the
cdtty program to indicate which product on the CD-ROM to
           unlock.

 ./cdtty -axxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx -cyyy-yyy-yyyy -pn -ddirectory
 -o
Decrypts and copies product "n" (from the "-list"
option) to the destination directory "directory." The
access key "xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx" and customer ID
"yyy-yyy-yyyy" must include hyphens. If "-o" is
specified, files in the destination directory are
overwritten. If overwrite is not specified and the files
exist, an error message is issued.

NOTE: Error messages are printed to stderr. Command line
arguments can be entered in any order.

 10.0 Locked Licensed Products
 ------------------------------

The DB2/6000 Version 1.2 products are licensed programs operating
under the control of the Network Licensing System (NetLS) from
Gradient Technologies. NetLS is not an additional pre-requisite
product. When any of the DB2/6000 products are installed, the
minimum required NetLS product package is installed automatically.

The CD-ROM comes pre-loaded with all of the DB2/6000 products. You
can install any of the available products, but these products
cannot be used until the NetLS passwords are entered in the NetLS
nodelock file on the machine where the product is installed.

The DB2 Client Application Enabler/6000 product is also available
on the CD-ROM. This product can be installed and used without
entering an access key. DB2 Client Application Enabler/2 and DB2
Client Application Enabler/DOS packaged with the DB2 Client
Support/6000 product can also be installed and used on DOS, Windows
and OS/2 workstations without entering an access key.

 10.2 Temporary Product Passwords
 ---------------------------------

To encourage the use of other DB2 products, the "readme" file
included with each product provides the NetLS passwords which allow
temporary and limited access to the product.

Once these passwords are entered in the nodelock file, they will
enable their respective products. Temporary passwords are provided
 for DB2/6000, DDCS/6000, DB2 Client Support/6000, and the DB2
Software Developer's Kit/6000. These passwords limit the use of
DB2/6000 and DDCS/6000 to eight concurrent database connections
(enforced by code within the products). All of the temporary
passwords expire sixty days after first use, or on June 30, 1995,
whichever comes first. Customers who use temporary passwords to
enable DB2 products can get permanent passwords by ordering the
 products.

 11.0 Installing NetLS Passwords
 --------------------------------

 11.1 Installing Nodelocked Passwords
 -------------------------------------

 3. Transfer the vendor ID, product password, license annotation,
and product version that you received to a blank line in the
file. Each part must be entered exactly as it appears in the
     "readme" file.

Here is a sample nodelock license file:

NEXT: Customer will fill out and send registration form to get the
license keys. He has 60MB free in /usr for /usr/sys/inst.images
as the target directory. He will use the cdtty command to
load the files into /usr/sys/inst.images and then run "smit install"
or "installp" with that as the target directory.
