URGENT 7318, p10s quit working.

Question:

DESC: This was working fine until yesterday. Now all of the ports
quit working. They have a error in the errpt:
d84ca516
communication subsystem error
ent0

ACT: After some conversation here is what happened:
As of yesterday, they cut over to all brand new network cabling.
This 7318 has been working fine up until then. I started out fine
and ran for several hours. Then the terminal server stopped
talking and the errpt filled up with adapter errors.

This really sounds like a cabling problem. They had the wire
certified yesterday by ibm but then it was working yesterday.
They need to get the network people back on site to test while
this is down.

NEXT: close, pending callback.

Desc: The customer has 11 P10 terminal servers attached to an
ethernet network. The RISC system controlling them is a model
350 with a standard ethernet card. Off the terminal servers
        are 100 ibm 3151 terminals.

The terminal servers and ascii terminals were installed 2 days
ago. The system functions fine for a little while, and then
slowly, more and more ttys start locking up. The error report
        is full of:

I'm not sure what cblocks are that the error refers to.

Checking the status of the P10s:

shows only 10 of the 11 P10s. I'm not sure if 10 lines is the
maximum number of lines output from the 'explore', or maybe
the 11th P10 is not terminated properly.

'lsdev -Cc tty' does list ttys on 11 P10s and they are all
        available.

Several Init:respawning too rapidly errors are appearing to the
        console:

INIT: Command is respawning too rapidly. Check for possible errors.
id: tty96 "/etc/getty /dev/tty96"

INIT: Command is respawning too rapidly. Check for possible errors.

Some terminals are still working, or come back on line after
a few minutes. For example, tty7 is working, but tty9 is not.
When trying to run 'cnsview -c "show modem" on the different
        ports we get:

/ > cnsview -c "show modem" /dev/tty7
dtr: 1
dcd: 1
rts: 1
cts: 1

/ > cnsview -c "show modem" /dev/tty9
cnsview: open failed on device "/dev/tty9"
cnsview: Not enough space

>> set device /dev/tty7 /dev/tty9

>> show errors
device parity frame overrun
/dev/tty7: 0 0 0
/dev/tty9: 0 0 0

Running crash on tty7 shows the status is isopen. For tty9, the
port is iclose. I can't figure what the 'not enough space' error
is referring to from 'cnsview -c "show modem" /dev/tty9'. Maybe
it is that 'cblock' problem again.

I recommended installing a ptf which seems related: ix46870- U437785
Unfortunately, this fix is not available on FixDist yet.

Next: The customer stressed that this is a serious problem. Basically, the
company is down right now. They want to make sure this is SEV1.

Pete or Nancy can be reached at (808) 544-3331. They want to download the
fix today if at all possible. Pete has contacts with IBM at the
local branch in Hawaii and faster ftp would be availble there but
maybe not any faster than 19200 unless using VM.
