URGENT: led 557 recovery

Question:

Desc: Clayton has a customer with a C10 which hangs at led557 on
normal boot. Hardware item HW8HD was opened for them in
Chicago and the led557 fax was sent.

Act: The customer, John Torosa, is trying to fix the problem
in the maintenance shell- but he is not seeing messages as
        expected in the fax.
Called John and the first problem is that he is attempting to
boot into maintenance mode off of diagnostic diskettes.
Trying to boot off a mksysb tape- we get to c31- and it stops
waiting to define the console. There are several terminals
and John is not sure which one is the main console.

Looking at the connection from S1- there is a cable which
splits into 2, going to an ascii terminal and a modem (?).
Suggested connecting a regular rs232 cable to an ascii display
        off S1 without a modem.

Next: waiting on progress

Response:

Act: Called Clayton about the problem and to see if there was
any way to modify the cabling or the setup of the terminal.
He knows how to get to the setup menu on the AT&T terminal
        model 2955-1201-7150:

Press \ F1 to get to the menu
at the terminal emulation line, press space to change
Press F1 F1 to save changes

We changed the emulation mode from AT&T605 to vt100 and
rebooted the C10. This time we got the message to press
        1 to define the console.

        In maintenance mode, we ran:

                getrootfs hdisk0 sh
                ODMDIR=/dev/objrepos
                logform /dev/hd8
                fsck -y /dev/hd2
                fsck -y /dev/hd3
                fsck -y /dev/hd4
                fsck -y /dev/hd9var

                syncvg -v rootvg
                syncvlvodm -v rootvg
                bosboot -a -d /dev/hdisk0
                sync
                sync

(put key in normal and took tape out)
                shutdown -Fr

and the system booted to a login

Next: closing call
