Xserver getting only the server, but TFTP climbing high

Question:

Env: Xstation 140, PS/2 Novell Server gateway machine

Desc: SE has a customer that is unable to receive a login window
from her Xstation 140 boot host even though the boot seems
successful. She is able to get the gray server screen
and mouse movement however, she was unable to get an
x_st_mgr login client from the boot host.
The xstation 140 is on a Novell Network (token ring), and
is booting through the PS/2 Novell Server (gateway) from
an RS/6000 on a token ring network.

Action: I verified the config, and checked x_st_mgr, it was listening,
I then put bootp in debug, and it was getting the correct
        information....

I had them try to send an aixterm to the xstation, but
it never appeared, and no error messages showed on the
calling screen either. I then had her send an xclock,
which did appear. So I assumed it was a font problem.
To check the fonts I typed in the following commands on the
X windows console of the Rs/6000 boot host.

        xset -q -display \:0

This returned 5 valid font paths!! (including /usr/lib/X11/fonts.)

Deb then suggested moving the xstation to the same ring as
the boot server. After moving the xstation to the same ring
as the boot host, the xstation received a login client aixterm.

I spoke with my colleague who suggested that maybe the
gateway was somehow limiting the packet size and keeping X
packets (being very large) from getting through.

I had the SE check the Novell documentation and sure enough there
was a parameter called "packet size" that when increased, allowed
the login client aixterm through the gateway.
