X.25 adapter changes causing "Device is busy" message

QUESTION:

We are using the AIX V 3 X.25 support included in the Base Operating
System (BOS) rather than the new X.25 support provided via an LPP.

We are setting up an X.25 attachment to GEIS (GE PSDN) and are trying
to change our NUA. When I try to do this in SMIT, I am stopped with
the message: "Device is Busy"

We thought we had stopped everything using X.25. In desperation, we
tried a workaround where we renamed the /etc/microcode/icaaim.com --
this kept X.25 from starting when we rebooted so that we could make
the change in SMIT. This worked, but it meant that we had to reboot
and that is not a workable long term solution.

RESPONSE:

The network management daemons are keeping your X.25 device open. We
issued the following commands and you were able to make the X.25 changes
in SMIT.

Note: This combination of steps worked for you -- you did not work
backward to determine which exact thing(s) that solved your problem.

  1. Stop the NetView end user interface
Top left corner of the interface, click on file, then exit
  2. Stop NetView
        Smit
          Communications
            NetView for AIX
              Control
                Stop all running daemons
  3. Stop systems monitor
        Smit
          Communication Applications and Services
            Systems Monitor for AIX
              Local options
                Control SIA (F4 to list)
                  Stop sysinfod
                Control MLM (F4 to list)
                  Stop midmand
