SLIP - Dynamic Link allocation?
Question:
Customer wanted to know if there is a way to have multiple
systems have dynamic SLIP connections into his system. i.e.
be able to allocate SLIP connections dynamically as people
login rather than dedicated connections.
Response:
ACT: The function that the customer is looking for is "sliplogin" which
is part of AIX 4.1. This allows for dynamic establishment of
SLIP links.
Sliplogin command is used to allow logged in users
on tty devices to activate SLIP on the tty port supporting their login.
Tyically sliplogin is specified as the login shell for a particular
user in that users /etc/passwd file entry.
When sliplogin is used by a non-root user without any command line
arguments, it looks up link configuration information in
/etc/hosts.slip file.
