How to get queuing system to restore on other machines
Question:
We have a lot of RISC Systems around the country. They are identical.
They all have only one printer (lp0). We would like to create a new
virtual printer on one of them and then make some kind of image or
script to install the virtual printer on the rest of the machines
without using mkvirprt or SMIT.
--------------
ANSWER:
No problem. You need to create the virtual printer on one of
the machines. Then tar up the /var/spool/lpd/pio/custom/
file, /var/spool/lpd/stat file, /var/spool/lpd/pio/ddi/ file, that
you created along with the /etc/qconfig file. You would
untar this onto the other machines. Then type enq -d to digest
everything.
Response:
The other option to use is the 'piopredef' command.
With this command you can make a new 'predef' predefined
printer with all the customized attributes. Then when
you get the new system you simply add your new type of
printer to the system.
piopredef -q queue_name -d dev_name -t new_printer -s datastream (asc, ps)
this will create a file in /usr/lib/lpd/pio/predef with the name
new_printer.asc etc
Edit this file to change the description of the printer by changing
the following line in the file: for example if we changed a 4019
:331:mL::IBM 4019 LaserPrinter
to
:331:ml::IBM 4019 Customized for Checks
Now when you run 'mkvirprt', this will show up as one of the options.
