Service Description

RS/6000 Technical Library is an annual subscription service comprised of two components, Information and Software Service. You may subscribe to one or both of these components, which are delivered to you on CD-ROM.

RS/6000 Technical Library/Information

The Information component of the RS/6000 Technical Library service is a collection of comprehensive technical materials for the RS/6000 and current release of AIX. When you subscribe to this element, each calendar quarter you will receive a CD-ROM, formatted in HTML for viewing with any Web browser. The CD-ROM contains up-to-date technical documentation and corrective service information for the RS/6000 and current release of AIX. Also included are answers to frequently asked installation and usage questions.

RS/6000 Technical Library/Software Service

The Software Service component of RS/6000 Technical Library is a collection of Program Temporary Fixes (PTFs) for AIX and all supported RS/6000 products (except CATIA). When you subscribe to this element, each calendar month you will receive a package of CD-ROMs containing all the new PTFs made available during the previous month (together with their software requisites) as well as the current problem solving databases. From a Java-based graphical user interface you can search for problem descriptions, select PTFs and install them on your systems.

Local search in problem solving databases for resolving PTFs
Local search for updates by APAR, PTF or fileset
Installation respective copying to disk of selected PTFs by regarding a particular installation base
Optional Internet connection for getting most current PTF/APAR information

Both options are inter-linked together. This includes the ability to install RS/6000 Technical Library/Information from the RS/6000 Technical Library/Software Service GUI. Moreover PTF information collected by browsing RS/6000 Technical Library/Information databases can be saved to a file that can be loaded by RS/6000 Technical Library/Software Service by resolving the PTFs, APARs or filesets and adding them for installation or copying to disk.
