AIX Version 4.3 System Management Guide: Operating System and Devices

Advanced Topics

Search Service Administrators Authority

Only root and members of the imnadm (IMN administration) user group have the authority to perform administrative tasks for the search service. This includes tasks such as creating document indexes, registering indexes, and unregistering indexes.

If you want a user to be able to perform these functions, add the user to the imnadm group using one of the AIX administration tools.

Note: If you add a user to the imnadm group, they will be able to read the contents of all indexes on the system. See the Security Section for more information.

Creating Custom Search Forms

When you register a new index, the index shows up in the global AIX documentation search service search form. This search form shows and allows searches of all indexes that are registered on a server. You may want to create a custom search form that only shows and searches a subset of the indexes on a search server. For example, you may want to put a "Search" link inside the "Project X Plan" HTML document. When a user clicks this Search link, a search form appears and it only list the indexes for Project X documents. The search will only search Project X documents and no other unrelated documents.

For instructions on how to create your own custom search forms, see the chapter Documentation Search Service in the AIX Version 4.3 General Programming Concepts: Writing and Debugging Programs book for more information.
