About This Book

This book contains conceptual and procedural information about the Host Connection Program (HCON) facility. Topics covered include an introduction to HCON, as well as more detailed information about using, configuring, and managing HCON.

Note: The information in this book can also be found in an online format on your HCON product CD.

Who Should Use This Book

This book is intended for people who want to use, manage, and program the HCON facility. This book gives information from the most basic uses of HCON, such as invoking the facility itself, to the most complex uses, such as managing HCON sessions. It is intended for both beginners and advanced users.

Before you begin the tasks in this book, you should have a working knowledge of networks, local and remote hosts, and client/server architecture.

How to Use This Book

Each chapter lists conceptual information on the chapter topic, followed by procedural articles describing the various tasks associated with the topic.

Highlighting

The following highlighting conventions are used in this book:

Bold Identifies commands, keywords, files, directories, and other items whose names are predefined by the system.
Italics Identifies parameters whose actual names or values are to be supplied by the user.
Monospace Identifies examples of specific data values, examples of text similar to what you might see displayed, examples of portions of program code similar to what you might write as a programmer, messages from the system, or information you should actually type.
