WHAT IS SYSTEM EXPERT?

Demo System Expert will assist in maintaining the operational state of your RS/6000 systems and applications by remotely monitoring:

  • Performance
  • Capacity
  • Configuration
  • Security

System Expert provides continuous system auditing and daily reports that include high level, detailed data on its operational state. The daily operational reports highlight exceptional events, system changes, and urgent conditions. Since potential system exposures are identified early, they can be resolved before they have an impact on system availability or security.

The System Expert software monitors a collection of RS/6000 systems, referred to as monitored systems. For each monitored system, the software:

  • Detects system events and notifies system managers
  • Collects data on security, integrity, performance and reliability
  • Performs automated administrative tasks

Via e-mail, monitored systems send data to a central management system where the expert system software:

  • Analyzes data collected from monitored systems
  • Highlights urgent system exposures and conditions
  • Maintains historical data for analysis, graphing and planning
  • Distributes reports and graphs to system managers and to IBM
  • Provides real-time alerts when present parameters are exceeded

System Expert utilizes software that has an X11 Window/Motif or Netscape interface called the Viewer. The Viewer graphical interface is used for displaying events, reports, and graphs for individual and collections of monitored systems. Viewers may be installed on any RS/6000 system or systems in the enterprise.**

Using a real-time "Monitor & Alert" feature, the RS/6000 can identify when pre-set parameters have been exceeded and inform the local system administrator for action. This feature can also inform other remote support personnel via pager or e-mail.

RS/6000 System Expert software supports all network-connected and distributed system environments. This includes systems connected via LAN, WAN, remote dial-up or any combination of these three.

RS/6000 System Expert software is designed to easily scale to large environments, reducing the effort necessary to support rapidly growing networks. System Expert also is easily customized to incorporate existing or new customer-specified extensions into software's auditing, reporting, or event detection capabilities.

There are two versions of System Expert which can be installed: a monthly summary report, and a full service daily report. The monthly summary service is available in the US and Canada only.

    • Optional encryption of data packets being returned to system
    • Reports can be sent to customer on a daily basis
