Thomas-Conrad Corporation Release Information, 4/8/93 Thomas-Conrad ARCNET Network Drivers Diskette Version 2.20 This README contains notes and release information for Thomas-Conrad ARCNET drivers and ARCTOOLS. If you purchased a TC6246 (ARCNET Micro Channel) adapter, you received one 3.5 inch diskette. All other ARCNET adapters ship with one 3.5 inch and one 5.25 inch diskette. ******************************* * FILES IN THE ROOT DIRECTORY * ******************************* In addition to this README, the root directory of the driver diskette contains four files. * TCCDISK.BAT tells you the version number of the individual drivers on the diskette and the diskette version number. * @64B6.ADF is the Adapter Definition File used with the TC6046 and TC6246 ARC-CARD Micro Channel adapters. The other two files in the root directory are used with NetWare Lite. The ODI workstation driver can be installed as part of the NetWare Lite version 1.x installation process. These are the same as the files located in the DOSODI subdirectory. During the installation, the program will prompt you for the type of adapter you are using. Choose "Other" and follow the prompts to install the Thomas-Conrad driver and complete the NetWare Lite installation. * TCCARC.COM is the ODI workstation driver, which can also be used with NetWare v2.1x and up and NetWare 386 v3.1x and up. * TCCARC.INS is the configuration file needed to install ODI workstation driver under NetWare Lite. ****************** * SUBDIRECTORIES * ****************** The driver diskette contains the following subdirectories: * DOSODI contains the ARCNET DOS ODI Workstation Driver for NetWare 286/386 workstations. These are the same as the files located in the root directory. * NW_WKSTN contains the Accelerated ARCNET IPX Linkable Driver for NetWare 286/386 workstations. * NW_REQ contains the Driver for NetWare Requester for OS/2 workstations. * NW286_OS contains the Accelerated ARCNET Driver for NetWare 286 file servers. * NW386_OS contains the Accelerated ARCNET Driver for file servers using NetWare 386 v3.1X and up. If you need a driver for NetWare 386 v3.0, please call Thomas-Conrad Technical Support. * MSLANMAN.OS2 contains the NDIS Driver for OS/2 LAN Manager v2.x for OS/2 workstations and servers. This subdirectory contains the directory structure required by the LAN Manager Setup Program. * MSLANMAN.DOS contains the NDIS Driver for OS/2 LAN Manager v2.x for DOS workstations. This subdirectory contains the directory structure required by the LAN Manager Setup Program. * NDIS subdirectory contains the driver for DOS and OS/2 workstations on NDIS-compliant operating systems. This driver works with all network operating systems that conform to the Network Driver Interface Specification (NDIS) standard, including Microsoft OS/2 LAN Manager, 3Com 3+Open, and Ungermann-Bass Net/One. * EISA.CFG contains configuration files for Thomas-Conrad adapters in EISA machines. * ARCTOOLS contains the latest version of ARC Tools, the diagnostic utility program for Thomas-Conrad ARCNET adapters. Chapter 4 of your Installation Guide has instructions for running ARC Tools from a working copy of the diskette or from a local hard drive. * NW40_OS contains TCARCH.LAN, a high performance server driver that can be used with NetWare 4.0 or 3.1x installations. The subdirectory also includes the support files that are needed in a 3.1x installation. **************************** * EISA Configuration Files * **************************** The Directory Structure listing in Chapter 1 of the Installation Guide lists the files in the EISA.CFG subdirectory as !TCO6242.CFG, !TCO6245, etc. These files should be listed as !TCC6242.CFG, !TCC6245, etc. There is no change in the operation of these EISA configuration files. ************* * ARC TOOLS * ************* The subdirectory named ARCTOOLS contains the latest version of ARC Tools, the setup/diagnostic utility program for Thomas-Conrad ARCNET adapters. You should run the ARC Tools diagnostic tests before attempting to load drivers, since the tests can reveal potential problems (such as hardware conflicts with other adapters, bad cabling or a malfunctioning hub port) before errors are introduced onto the network. Chapter 4 of your Installation Guide has instructions for running ARC Tools from a working copy of the diskette or from a local hard drive. Please note the following when using ARC Tools: a. Before using ARC Tools, log off the network and boot your computer WITH DOS LOADED ONLY. ARC Tools will fail to execute if other programs (such as memory managers, Windows or OS/2) are already loaded. b. Before running diagnostic tests on any Thomas-Conrad ARCNET adapter, make sure the adapter is connected to a network cable. *************************** * TCARCH.LAN INSTALLATION * *************************** TCARCH.LAN is a high performance server driver designed to work with NetWare versions 3.1X and 4.0. To use this driver in a NetWare 3.1x server, you will need to install four NetWare Loadable Modules (NLMs) and upgrade your MONITOR.NLM program if you use MONITOR. These files, LSLENH.NLM, PATCHMAN.NLM, MSM31X.NLM, RXNETTSM.NLM, and MONITOR.NLM are located in the NW40_OS subdirectory in addition to the driver file. If you have Monitor installed in your server and the date is earlier than the date of MONITOR.NLM on this diskette, you must replace it with this newer version. If you are not currently running MONITOR, you do not need to load it to use this driver. *** NOTE *** It is recommended that you replace the MONITOR.NLM file with the upgraded version. If a previous version of MONITOR is run, it can cause the server to ABEND. The NetWare Loadable Modules (NLMs) LSLENH.NLM, PATCHMAN.NLM, MSM31X.NLM and RXNETTSM.NLM must be loaded in this order. They can be loaded manually or be placed in load statements in the AUTOEXEC.NCF file. After these support files are loaded, the driver TCARCH.LAN can be loaded. These NLMs can be unloaded while the file server is running. The driver and NLMs must be unloaded in the reverse order that they were loaded. The NW40_OS directory also contains a file named TCARCH.LDI. This file contains configuration options for the driver and is used when installing under NetWare 4.0. It is not used for a NetWare 3.x installation. ***************** * FOR MORE HELP * ***************** For more help, contact Thomas-Conrad Technical Support in one of the ways shown below.
