The IBM 7131 Model 105
The 7131-105 SCSI Multi-Storage Tower provides for the growing customer
requirements for low cost, expandable storage. The tower
allows expansion with disk drive modules as well as tape or
CD-ROM options. Using two towers,
a customer can mirror data to provide a low cost
backup solution.
Disk drives protect the customer investment
A member of the StorageSmart family of products, the 7131 Multi-Storage
Tower is initially configured with two
2.2 GB, 4.5 GB, or 9.1 GB disk drives.
The tower is also configured with three additional hot swappable slots
and two additional media slots.
These additional slots may be filled at the time of purchase, or later as
needed to keep pace with the customer's storage needs.
The hot swappable slots can
contain a mix of IBM drives: 2.2 GB, 4.5 GB, and 9.1 GB.
Tape backup solution
Today's environment requires customers to have low cost tape backup
for online storage.
The 7131 provides two tape storage options.
- 4mm, 4 GB (up to 8 GB with hardware compression)
- 8mm, 5 GB (up to 10 GB with hardware compression)
These drives are supported by industry-leading backup applications
like the IBM ADSTAR Distributed Storage Manager (ADSM)
for AIX
and the IBM AIX System Backup and Recovery/6000 (SYSBACK/6000).
CD-ROM drive
One of the two 7131 optional media slots can also contain a 4x speed
(600 KB/sec) CD-ROM drive with
multi-session and KODAK Photo CD-ROM
capabilities.
Storage today and for the future
The 7131 provides up to 63.7 GB of storage in a compact space.
Using two towers, a customer can mirror data to provide a low-cost
backup solution for critical environments.
The expansion tower provides an upgrade path to the new higher
performance disk drives with growth potential to future disk drive
technology, including IBM's next generation disk drives, protecting
customer investment today and into the future.
