If you have not yet installed SF240_219_201 level on your 9117-570 or have already installed it and processors are disabled then follow the steps below:

1) Determine if your system is equipped with 1.5 GHz processors:

a) Access ASM from the HMC or other network device and login as the "admin" user.
b) Click on the + (plus) sign to expand all menus.
c) Select "System Information" and then select "Vital Product Data"
d) From the main panel, scroll down and check the box next to one of the "Processor FRU (PF)" entries.
e) Scroll to the bottom of the screen and select "Display Details".
f) Output similar to the following example will be displayed. If the CCIN field is 26EF, the system is equipped with 1.5 GHz processors. CCIN's other than 26EF are not exposed to this problem.

        Vital Product Data

        FRU: Processor FRU (PF)
        Part number: 80P5241
        Serial number: YL11C5033081
        FRU number: 80P5240
        CCIN: 26EF
        RID: 0x1001
        Location code: U7879.001.DQD05VK-P2-C2

2) Obtain an activation code:

a) Connect to the IBM COD website: http://www-03.ibm.com/servers/eserver/pseries/ondemand/cod/
b) Select the "Activation" tab.
c) Select  "Activation codes by machine serial number" from the Activation Tools menu.
d) On the next panel, input your machine type and serial number and click submit.
e) If the search returns 1 of more activation codes, for type POD entries look for the word "PODD" embedded within the 34 character activation code as shown in the following example. If this code is available, continue with the next step. If the search does not return any activation codes OR none of the activation codes contain the "PODD" string,  contact your Hardware Support Structure to request a new activation code.

3) Pre-install Procedure:
If you have not yet installed the system firmware, continue with this procedure.  Otherwise, skip to the recovery procedure.

This procedure will guide you through the application of the activation code. On 1.5 GHz processor systems with system firmware released prior to SF240, it is not possible to query to see if the code has already been applied.  Application of the code is normally performed during the default factory installation.

Prior to performing this step, for non-HMC attached systems, the operating system must be running. For HMC managed systems, the system must be in Standby or Operating state.

- Access ASM from the HMC or other network device and login as the "admin" user.
- Click on the + (plus) sign next to the On Demand Utilities" menu item.
- Select "CoD Activation"
- On the main panel, enter the activation code obtained earlier and click continue. If a successful completion message is received,  wait 5 minutes before powering off or continuing with the next step to allow the activation code to be stored. If a message stating "Could not process the request" is received, the activation code has already been applied.
-You can now proceed with the firmware upgrade.

Recovery procedure:

The recovery procedure is identical to the pre-install procedure with the exception of an extra step required for non-hmc managed systems:

For non-HMC managed systems the processors will be available immediately after the activation code has been applied however the system will have to be rebooted for the operating system to utilize them. Ensure that you have waited 5 minutes after the activation code has been was applied before continuing.

In the event that additional problems are encountered or time constraints are involved, installation of a previous level or release of system firmware will automatically re-enable the processors.
