SYSTEM IMAGE BACKUPS MAY NOT BE USABLE UNLESS YOU DO THE FOLLOWING: System image backups created using the "mksysb" command or the "smit startup" menu may not be usable unless you make the following changes. These procedures include changes needed to correctly create diskettes used to boot the system and to correctly create system backups. To determine the ACTIVE service level of the Base Operating System, use the following command: lslpp -h bos.obj If the ACTIVE service level is 03.01.0003.0013, you must do the following (one time only): A. Change the mkszfile script. 1. Login as root. 2. Type the following: cd /usr/bin 3. Type the following: cp mkszfile mkszfile.save 4. Type the following: sed -e 's/$8/$7/' mkszfile B. Change the bosinst scripts before making boot diskettes. 1. Login as root. 2. Type the following: cd /usr/lpp/bosinst 3. Type the following: cp bosmenus bosmenus.save 4. Type the following: cp bosrest bosrest.save 5. Type the following: sed -e 's/\.5 -p//' bosmenus 6. Type the following: sed -e 's/\.5 -C/ -C/' bosrest C. Customers with 8mm tape drives - verify / change the block size to 512-bytes. 1. Login as root. 2. Type the following: smit chgtpe 3. Select an available 8mm tape drive. 4. Change the BLOCK size Entry Field to 512. 5. Press to process the change. 6. Exit (F10 on most keyboards) SMIT. D. Create BOS Boot, BOS Inst/Maint, and Display Diskettes.
