TP 310E/ED,315E/ED - Cannot exit out of the ThinkPad Demo

SYMPTOM:
When trying to exit the demo program for the ThinkPad you are prompted for a password. If you do not enter a password or type it in incorrectly it will not let you exit the demo.

CONFIGURATION:
Any ThinkPad 310E/ED or 315E/ED running the demo program that was pre-installed on your computer.

SOLUTION:
The ThinkPad demo program allows you to password protect it so that the demo can not be exited without typing in a password. If the password is forgotten or inadvertently set by someone you can do the following to recover:
1.) Press the CTRL+ALT+DEL keys to bring up the Close Program window.
2.) Highlight THINKPAD and then click on the End Task button.

This will allow you to close the demo so that you may continue with your work. If nothing happens when pressing the CTRL+ALT+DEL keys, then proceed with one of the following procedures:

If the demo program is in the startup folder:
1.) Restart the computer.
2.) When it says Starting Windows 95 in the upper left hand corner press the F8 key.
3.) At the Startup Menu, select option 5. Command prompt only and press Enter.
4.) At the command prompt type cd\windows\startm~1\programs\startup and press Enter.
5.) Type del thinkpad.lnk and press Enter.
6.) Restart the computer.

If the demo program is in the Win.Ini file:
1.) Boot the computer into safe mode or to a command prompt.
2.) Edit the System.ini file.
3.) Delete C:\TPDEMO\THINKPAD.EXE from the RUN= line.
4.) Save the file, exit, and restart the computer.

If you do not wish to keep the demo program, you may uninstall it by double-clicking on the Uninstall 310 Demo icon on your desktop.

If you wish to continue to use the demo program and you do not know what the password is you will need to do the following:

1.) You will first need to uninstall the demo program by double-clicking on the Uninstall 310 Demo icon on your desktop.
2.) After it is uninstalled, you will need to reinstall the demo program from the ThinkPad 310E/310ED Preload Application CD. Follow this link for instructions on how to reinstall the demo program - .
