IBM WorkPad - WorkPad not being recognized in cradle

Applicable to: World-Wide

SYMPTOM:
When attempting to transfer data between the IBM WorkPad and you desktop or notebook computer, it does not recognize that the WorkPad is attached.

CONFIGURATION:
Any desktop or notebook computer attached to an IBM WorkPad.

SOLUTION:
First ensure that the serial port is enabled and is functioning properly. If the serial port is enabled and is functioning properly, then test the WorkPad cradle to ensure that it is communicating with the desktop or notebook computer. To test the cradle, perform the following steps:

1. Click on Start ==> Programs ==> Accessories ==> Communications ==> Hyperterminal.
2. Double-click on the Hypertrm.exe icon.
3. Name your session, and then click on OK .
4. At the Phone Number screen, under Connect Using select Direct to COM X (where X is the COM Port used for your cradle), then click OK.
5. At the Port Settings screen ensure:

select OK

6. Press the HotSync button on your cradle and you should see gibberish flow across the screen, verifying that your Organizer and cradle are functioning properly. If this does not produce a character stream, then the cradle is suspect and should be replaced.
