Network Station - AS/400 server platform general information

Applicable to: World-Wide

This document contains information relating to the IBM Network Station, and the IBM Network Station Manager product when used with the AS/400 server running OS/400 . The IBM Network Station Manager software product installs and runs on an AS/400 running OS/400 . The NSM (Network Station Manager) product facilitates the connection and management of IBM Network Stations to the AS/400 server. NSM runs on AS/400 systems running Version 3 Release 2 or Version 3 Release 7 and subsequent version and release levels, as needed.

Note: On the AS/400 system, the product component ID for NSM (Network Station Manager) is 5733A06 for R320, and 5733A07 for R370 and higher.

Network Station AS/400 Publications

Publications for the AS/400 Network Station server, and other server platforms, can be found at the Network Station publications Web site http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/pubs/html/netcom/pub.htm .

SC41-0632, IBM Network Station Manager for AS/400
SG24-2153, AS/400-IBM Network Station - Getting Started

Notes: The following publications are not platform-specific and apply to the IBM Network Station:

SA41-0036 IBM Network Station Use
SY44-0068 IBM Network Station Service Information
SA41-4143 IBM Network Station Safety Information

Online help text obtained from latest PTF fixes will contain information relating to the enhancements acquired by those PTFs. See the section concerning Online help text later in this document (or one of the continuation documents).

Notes for Host Server Support

The IBM Network Station Manager logon support uses the host server support (that runs in subsystem QSERVER). Therefore, we suggest adding the command to start the QSERVER subsystem and the host server support to your AS/400 system startup routine (if they do not exist already). The command STRSBS QSERVER starts the QSERVER subsystem and the command STRHOSTSVR *ALL starts the host server support.

Notes when using Setup Assistant to configure IBM Network Station Printers

The IBM Network Station Manager Setup Assistant TASK 4300 assists you with configuring IBM Network Station printers. However, in order to configure a printer, an entry must exist for the IBM Network Station in the bootP table (defined using TASK 4200). This is true regardless of the boot type (NVRAM or NETWORK) defined on the IBM Network Station itself.

Notes when configuring bootP entries on the AS/400 boot type specification

Entries in the bootP table (use the work bootP table (WRKBPTBL) or Setup Assistant (STRNSSA) to update this table) for IBM Network Stations must specify the value IBMNSM for the boot type parameter. And, this field is case sensitive so be sure to use all upper-case characters.

More information can be found for the AS/400 Network Station server at the Web site http://service.boulder.ibm.com/nc/ .

Online Help Text

Fixes applied to the Network Station common code (Boot Prom, Java, 5250 session, and so on) and/or the Network Station Manager product may contain enhancements to the products. Documentation of these changes will be placed in the publications (user manuals) at the next revision, as applicable. However, the online help text will typically contain instructions on the use of the new features. To access the online help text from a Network Station, click on one of the help buttons. A help button is found within each application (window).
