Achiever PC 3000 - Re-installing the original software for systems with the Mwave adapter and Cirrus Logic video card

How do I reload the original software on my Ambra PC3000 with an Mwave adapter and Cirrus Logic video card?

Answer:
Follow the steps below.

*** ATTENTION ***
If you follow the steps below, you will lose all your data and program files. The hard drive will no longer contain any personal information. If you have important files you wish to keep, please save them before going any further.

For this operation you will need:

* The Windows 95 Start-up disk
* The Windows 95 CD
* The Ready to Configure CD
* The 6 Multimedia Modem installation disks
* One blank 3.5" high density diskette

A. Re-installing Windows 95.

  1. Insert the Windows 95 Start-up disk and then start the computer.
  2. At the A:\> prompt insert the Windows 95 CD.
  3. Type the word "FDISK" and press Enter.
  4. Choose "Option 3" and press Enter.
  5. Choose "Option 1", then press Enter.
  6. When you see the warning just press the Enter key.
  7. It will then ask you for the volume label. It should be written under where it says VOLUME LABEL
  8. Enter the volume label and then press Enter.
  9. When it asks you if you are sure, press "Y" and then press Enter.
  10. Press the "Esc" key to continue.
  11. Choose "Option 1" and press Enter.
  12. From the second menu choose "Option 1" and then press Enter.
  13. When it asks you if you wish to use the maximum available space answer "YES" and press Enter.
  14. Restart the computer.
  15. At the A:\> prompt type "FORMAT C:" (remember to leave off the " " characters) and press Enter.
  16. When asked for a volume label just press Enter.
  17. At the A:\> prompt type "D:" and press Enter.
  18. At the D:\> prompt type "SETUP" and press Enter.
  19. Press the Enter key to continue.
  20. At this point the mouse will work. You can then click on "Continue".
  21. Click on "YES" to accept the software agreement.
  22. Click on "NEXT" to start collecting information about the hardware installed in your computer.
  23. Click on "NEXT" to install Windows 95 into the default directory.
  24. Click on "NEXT" for a Typical Installation.
  25. Enter the software registration number found on the cover page of your Windows 95 guide.
  26. Click on "NEXT".
  27. Enter your Name and Company (company optional), then click on "NEXT".
  28. Click on "NEXT". Windows will then analyse your computer for the installed options.
  29. Click "NEXT" to install the most common components.
  30. Click on "NO, I DO NOT WANT A START-UP DISK", then click on "NEXT".
  31. Click on "NEXT" to start copying the files to your hard drive.
  32. Remove the start-up disk from the A:\> drive.
  33. Click on "FINISH" to restart the computer.
  34. Click on "OK" when prompted to insert the Windows 95 CD.
  35. Click on "CANCEL" to continue.
  36. Click on the down arrow in the date and time properties to select the appropriate time zone.
  37. Click on "CLOSE", then click on "NEXT".
  38. Click on "CANCEL" in the ADD PRINTER WIZARD. You should install your printer with the specific disks it came with.
  39. Click on "OK" to restart the computer.

B. Re-installing the sound drivers.

  1. Insert the diskette labelled "Multimedia Modem Windows disk 1" into the floppy drive.
  2. Click on "START", select "SETTINGS" and choose "CONTROL PANEL".
  3. Select "ADD/Remove Programs".
  4. Select "Install".
  5. Click on "NEXT".
  6. Click on "FINISH".
  7. At the installation window choose to run the "Complete installation".
  8. When asked for the various disks, insert them accordingly.
  9. When prompted to restart the computer, exit the installation and then click on "START, select "SHUTDOWN" and choose "Restart the Computer in MS-DOS mode". Make sure to remove the disk from the floppy drive and click on "YES".
  10. At the C:\WINDOWS> prompt, type "CD.." and press Enter.
  11. Type "CD DSP2\SOLO" and press Enter.
  12. Then type "CONFIG" and press Enter.
  13. The first message you will see is just to ensure that the board is installed.
  14. Press Enter to accept.
  15. Use the down arrow to highlight "SETUP" and press Enter.
  16. Make sure the following values match yours

    SB BASE I/O..........0X220
    SB DMA...............1
    SB IRQ...............7
    MIDI IRQ.............9
    MIDI BASE I/O........0X330
    COM PORT.............3

    CD-ROM IRQ...........NONE
    CD-ROM BASE I/O......0X0 (OR DISABLED)
    JOYSTICK.............ENABLED


    1. If any of the values do not match up, use the down arrow key to select the item you need to change. Press Enter to open the list of choices, select the correct setting and press Enter to change the value.
    2. When done, use the down arrow key to highlight "OK" and press Enter to accept.
    3. Move down and highlight "TEST" and press Enter. The system should then run 6 tests and pass them all.
    4. When the testing stops, press Enter again.
    5. Use the down arrow move to highlight "EXIT" and press Enter.
    6. Press Enter to update the config.sys and other files.
    7. Press Enter again to exit the program.
    8. Once back at the C:\DSP2\SOLO prompt, restart the computer.
    9. C. Re-installing the Modem software.
    10. Once back in Windows 95 click on "START", select "PROGRAMS" and choose "Multimedia modem".
    11. Click on "MWAVE MODEM".
    12. At this point you will have a window with 2 lights in green. The 2 lights in green should be "MR" and "HS".
    13. Leave this window on the screen.
    14. Click on "START", choose "SETTINGS" and select "CONTROL PANEL".
    15. Double click on the "Add New Hardware" icon.
    16. Click on "NEXT" at the first window, "NEXT" at the second window and "NEXT" at the third window.
    17. Let the autodetection find the hardware. Click on the "Details" button and the hardware installed should be a "Communication Port".
    18. Click on "Finish".
    19. You will now be back at the Control Panel.
    20. Double click on the "Add New Hardware" icon again.
    21. Click on "NEXT" at the first window, "NEXT" at the second window and "NEXT" at the third window.
    22. When done you should get the "Details" button again. If you click on it you should see "28.8 Mwave Data Fax". Click on "Finish" and then click on "Next".

    D. Re-installing the Video drivers.

    1. You will need to insert the "Ready to Configure CD".
    2. Insert a blank 3.5" high density floppy disk into the A drive.
    3. Click on "START", select "PROGRAMS" and choose "MS DOS prompt".
    4. At the C:\WINDOWS> prompt, type "FORMAT A:" and press Enter.
    5. When the format is complete press Enter for the volume label.
    6. At this point you will be back at the C:\WINDOWS prompt.
    7. Type the word "EXIT" and press Enter.
    8. You will be back in Windows. At this point double click on the "My Computer" icon.
    9. Next, double click on your CD-ROM icon. This will give you a window with some files in it.
    10. Double click on the "IBMSETUP" icon, then choose "English".
    11. Click on "Continue".
    12. Click on the "Run Diskette Factory" icon
    13. From the list of drivers, select "Cirrus Logic GD5436 display drivers for Windows 95".
    14. Click the "Build" button.
    15. At the next window, click on "Yes", then click on "OK".
    16. When the disk is built, click on "OK".
    17. At the following window, click on "OK" again.
    18. Close the window and click on "EXIT".
    19. Click on "START", select "SETTINGS", and choose "CONTROL PANEL".
    20. Now double click on the "Display" icon.
    21. Click on the "Settings" tab.
    22. Now click on "Change display type".
    23. Next to the adapter type, click on "Change".
    24. Click on "Have Disk" and make sure the floppy disk is inserted.
    25. Click on "OK".
    26. At this point the "Cirrus Logic 5436/5446 PCI Direct Draw/VPM (V1.11a)" should be highlighted.
    27. Click on "OK".
    28. Click on "Close".
    29. At the bottom of the next window click on "Apply".
    30. Remove the floppy disk.
    31. Click "Yes" to restart and you are finished.
