P72 17" Color Monitor - Product Overview
Applicable to: AP-N, AP-S, Canada, EMEA, United States
The P72 monitor has the following general characteristics:
The P72 models support a wide range of display modes and can attach to and operate with many IBM and compatible PC systems. The microprocessor-controlled, multifrequency operation allows you to change, replace, or upgrade most system units without replacing the monitor. The P72 monitor will run most standard VGA, SVGA, and XGA applications without modification, minimizing additional expenses associated with program alterations or in retraining staff.
The P72 models feature Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA) Display Data Channel (DDC) capability for Plug and Play and asset tracking when the attaching system unit's hardware and software is DDC-enabled.
The new model's power management capability meets the power consumption requirements of Swedish National Board for Industrial and Technical Development (NUTEK). As an Energy Star partner , IBM has determined that this product meets the Energy Star guidelines for energy efficiency.
The P72 monitor supports the timings for the Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA) 85 Hz non-interlaced refresh rate display modes for 640 x 480, 800 x 600, and 1024 x 768 addressabilities. Appropriate graphics adapter hardware and software must be installed in the attaching system unit.
All models of the P72 monitor are TCO-95 compliant and incorporate a universal power supply with power factor correction (EN 61000-3-2:1995) providing worldwide operating capability.
Key Prerequisites: The P72 monitor operates with many IBM and compatible PC systems. Most VGA, SVGA, XGA, and SXGA applications will run without modification.

Hardware Requirements:
The IBM P72 Color Monitor is designed to operate with system units or graphic adapters that generate a video output signal that falls within the specifications below:
Parameter |
P72 |
Max addressability (pels) |
1280 x 1024 |
Horizontal frequency (kHz) |

Note: The factory-preset modes cannot be overwritten, but any of them can be adjusted to personal choice. The new settings are stored automatically in one of the user locations and are recalled each time that mode is used. The factory settings for the mode in use, if any, can be restored by operating the Geometry Reset control. It may be necessary to make some adjustments to the displayed picture to compensate for variations in video signal timings. The user controls can be used to make these adjustments.
Compatibility: The monitor is supplied with a attached video signal cable. This cable has the same 15-pin, D-shell video connector for system unit connection as previous IBM monitors.
Supported systems:
The monitor has been tested for compatibility with the following IBM PC systems:

Limitations:
Cable Orders:
An attached video signal cable is supplied with the monitor. It is 1.8 meters (6 ft) long with a 15-pin, mini D-shell connector. A separate signal cable adapter (part number 96G2693) is required to provide "1010" ID bits at the monitor interface for those systems that require ID bits.
Cable Options:
For RISC/6000:
15pin-D to 15pin-D Adapter (with 1010 ID bits) part number 96G2693
Note: When the new models of the P72 monitor are ordered as features of a IBM RISC System/6000(R) system, the cable requirements are automatically handled by the order process.
For APPLE(R) attachment:
15pin-D to 15pin-Apple(R) Cable Adapter part number 96G2694
