Important Notice:
Please Read the Following Information
Prior to Installing Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0

IBM has identified some minor incompatibilities between certain IBM Systems and Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0. If you have not yet downloaded or installed Internet Explorer 4.0, we suggest you do not do so until:

Aptiva
If you have an Aptiva E, C, L or S Series (Model Types: 2137, 2140, 2142, 2159, 2161 and 2162) an update is available via our eSupport Web Site. This update will resolve the items listed in the section below titled "If you have already Installed Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 and are Experiencing Problems"

If you have any other model Aptiva please refer to our our eSupport Web Site for the latest information on Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 on your Aptiva. This information will be updated as it becomes available, so check back often. Additional information and support can also be obtained on Microsoft's web site.

IBM PC's

System Requirements:
You will need the following minimum system requirements to install Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0:
- A 486 with a 66 MHz processor (Pentium Recommended)
- For Microsoft Windows 95: 8Mb of RAM minimum, 16Mb with Active Desktop.
- For Microsoft Windows NT: 16MB of RAM minimum, 24Mb with Active Desktop.
- For Microsoft Windows NT: You must be running Service Pack 3 (or higher).
- 40 -70 Mb of hard-disk space (depending on installation type)
- Mouse
- Modem
- CD-ROM

If you have already Installed Internet Explorer 4.0 and are Experiencing Problems:
Below are some common questions and answers to assist you with the upgrade to Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0. Additional information can be found on our Aptiva eSupport Web Site.

1. If you are experiencing problems with the Animated Icons in Aptiva Desktop Customization:
- Due to an incompatibility between animated icons and Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0, the animated icon feature may not function normally with Active Desktop Enabled.
- During the installation of Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0, the icon animation feature is turned off. If you wish to re-enable the animation, you must first disable the Active Desktop feature of Internet Explorer 4.0.
- An update to correct this incompatibility on Aptiva E, C, L or S Series (Model Types: 2137, 2140, 2142, 2159, 2161 and 2162) is available on our Aptiva eSupport Web Site.

2. If you are experiencing problems with Access Aptiva:
- Due to an incompatibility between Access Aptiva and Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0, Access Aptiva will not function properly.
- During the installation of Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0, Access Aptiva is removed from the Startup Group. This prevents Access Aptiva from launching automatically when you start your computer. If Access Aptiva is launched manually, it will not function properly.
- An update to correct this incompatibility on Aptiva L or S Series (Model Types: 2140 and 2142) is available on our Aptiva eSupport Web Site.

3. If you are experiencing problems with MPEG Video/Audio:
- After the installation of Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0, you may notice that while playing an MPEG video, the video portion will be played at approximately half size and the playback will be slow. Also, the audio portion may be slow and/or muffled.
- An update to correct this incompatibility on Aptiva E, C, L or S Series (Model Types: 2137, 2140, 2142, 2159, 2161 and 2162) is available on our Aptiva eSupport Web Site.

4. If you are experiencing problems with IBM Update Connector:
- Occasionally, the -CONTINUE- or -EXIT- buttons will disappear from lower portion of the screen. This prevents you from proceeding with the update. To correct this problem, simply close IBM Update Connector, and then retry.
- An update to correct this incompatibility on Aptiva E, C, L or S Series (Model Types: 2137, 2140, 2142, 2159, 2161 and 2162) is on our Aptiva eSupport Web Site.
