TP General - How to configure the Windows Terminal program in Windows 3.1

How to Use Terminal:
The following should work for any modem. If using a PCMCIA modem, this document assumes that you have checked the Settings in PC Card Director and confirmed that all settings are correct.

How to establish a Terminal session:
1) From Program Manager, double click on the Accessories icon.
2) Double click on the Terminal icon.
3) Click on the Setting menu of the Terminal window. Choose Communications...
4) Set the Baud Rate to 19200 (this is the maximum speed supported by the application. Set the Data Bits to 8, the Stop Bits to 1, and Parity to None. For connector, select the COM port that your modem is installed on. For MWave and most PCMCIA modems, this will usually be COM2. However, you should check the settings of your device to be sure.
5) Click OK.
6) Click on the Phone menu and select Dial.
7) On the Dial: line, enter the phone number you wish to call.
8) Click on OK. The modem should now dial the number you have entered.
9) When you exit Terminal, you will be prompted to save the settings. Answer Yes.
10) When prompted, enter the file name in which to store the settings. This file can then be loaded using the File menu. If you always want to use these settings, name the file DEFAULT.TRM.

You have successfully created a session using Terminal.

How to change the baud rate of your Terminal Session:
1) From Program Manager, double click on the Accessories icon.
2) Double click on the Terminal icon.
3) Click on the Setting menu of the Terminal window. Choose Communications....
4) Set the Baud Rate to the desired speed. (19200 is the maximum speed supported by Terminal.)
5) Click on OK.
6) When you exit Terminal, you will be prompted to save the settings. Answer Yes if you wish to save the changes you made to the settings.

You have successfully changed the baud rate of your Terminal session.

How to choose your protocol with Terminal:
1) From Program Manager, double click on the Accessories icon.
2) Double click on the Terminal icon.
3) Click on the Settings menu and choose Binary Transfers.
4) Click on the radio button next to either XModem/CRC (recommended) or Kermit.
5) Click on OK.

You have successfully changed the protocol used by Terminal.

How to turn error correction off:
1) From Program Manager, double click on the Accessories icon.
2) Double click on the Terminal icon.
3) Click on the Settings menu and choose Modem Commands.
4) Edit the Dial Prefix. Change it to 'AT\N0DT'. This will disable error correction whenever the dial command is used.
5) Click the OK button.
6) When you exit Terminal, you will be prompted to save the settings. Answer Yes if you wish to save the changes you made to the settings.

You have successfully disabled error correction in Terminal.
