TP 760ED/XD,765D - How to install MPEG features under Windows 3.1x or Windows 95

This document covers the proper installation of the various drivers needed to support MPEG on the ThinkPad 760ED/XD and 765D. It also covers how to play an MPEG file as part of the checkout.
Choose which installation you want:
*MPEG Features for 760ED/XD, 765D in Windows 3.1x
*MPEG Features for 760ED/XD, 765D in Windows 95
*MPEG Features for 760ED/XD, 765D in Windows 3.1x:
Note: You must have 4 device drivers installed:
- Video Features
- Enhanced Video Device Driver
- Microsoft Win32s Device driver
- MPEG Device Driver
Video Features Installation:
1. Turn on the ThinkPad and start Windows
2. Exit Windows to a DOS prompt
3. Type cd\ windows and press enter
4. Type Setup and press Enter
5. Highlight Display and press enter
6. Select Other (Requires disk ...)
7. Insert the Video Features diskette for Windows 3.1
8. Type A:\ and press Enter
9. Select your desired resolution from the menu
10. Press Enter
11. Verify your Display settings and press Enter
12. Restart the ThinkPad
Mwave Installation:
1. Turn on the ThinkPad and start Windows
2. Select FILE from the Program Manager window
3. Select RUN from the pull down menu
4. Insert the Mwave diskette 1
5. Type A:\SETUP and press Enter
6. Follow the instructions on the screen
7. After installation, remove diskette and reboot
Enhanced Video Installation:
1. Turn on the ThinkPad and start Windows
2. Select FILE from the Program Manager window
3. Select RUN from the pull down menu
4. Insert the Enhanced Video Device Driver diskette
5. Type A:\SETUP and press Enter
6. Follow the instructions on the screen
7. After installation, remove diskette and reboot
Microsoft Win32s Installation:
1. Turn on the ThinkPad and start Windows
2. Select FILE from the Program Manager window
3. Select RUN from the pull down menu
4. Insert the Microsoft Win32s Setup Diskette
5. Type A:\setup and press Enter
6. Follow the instructions on the screen
7. After the installation is complete restart Windows
MPEG Device Driver Installation:
1. Click on Control Panel from the Main window
2. Click on Drivers; then click on the ADD button
3. Select Unlisted or Updated Driver; then click OK
4. Insert the MPEG Device Driver diskette
5. Make sure the drive letter is A: ; then click OK
6. Follow the instructions on the screen
7. Install all the drivers listed by repeating steps 1-6
8. After the installation is complete restart Windows
How to play MPEG files:
1. Double click on the Accessories Group icon
2. Double click on Media Player icon
3. Click on Device
4. Select MPEG from the drop down menu
5. Click on File + Open and choose your MPEG file
6. Click on Play
*MPEG Features for 760ED/XD, 765D in Windows 95:
Note: You must have 3 device drivers installed:
- Video Features
- Enhanced Video Device Driver
- MPEG Device Driver
Video Features Installation:
1. Turn on the ThinkPad and start Windows
2. Right click on the desktop and select properties
3. Click on the settings Tab
4. Click on Change Display Type
5. Click on Change next to Adapter Type
6. Select Have Disk
7. Insert the Video Features for Windows95 diskette
8. Press Enter and choose the IBM ThinkPad (Cyber 9385/82) PCI driver
9. Click on OK then Click on Close. Click on Close
10. Follow the instructions on the screen
11. After installation, remove diskette and reboot
Mwave Installation
1. Turn on the ThinkPad and start Windows
2. Select FILE from the Program Manager window
3. Select RUN from the pull down menu
4. Insert the Mwave diskette 1
5. Type A:\SETUP and press Enter
6. Follow the instructions on the screen
7. After installation, remove diskette and reboot
Enhanced Video Installation:
1. Insert the installation diskette in the diskette drive.
2. Go to Control Panel and Add New Hardware.
3. When asked if you want Windows to search for new hardware, select No.
4. Select Other devices or Sound, video and game controllers from the hardware list.
5. Click on Have disk....
6. Type A: in the browser dialog box.
7. Click on OK. You will see three lines in the list.
8. Select one of the drivers in the list, and click on OK.
9. If you want to continue installing other drivers in the list, do not reboot. Repeat steps 2 through 8.
10. Reboot.
11. After installation is complete, run Media Player. In the Device menu you should see:
- MCI Overlay Driver1. Turn on the ThinkPad and start Windows
MPEG Device Driver Installation:
1. Turn on the ThinkPad and start Windows95
2. Open "My Computer"; then open "Control Panel"
3. Open "Add New Hardware Wizard"
4. Click on Next>; then select NO to the question "Search for your new hardware?"
5. Click on Next>; then select "Sound, video and game controller"; then click on Next>
6. Insert the MPEG Installation Diskette for Windows 95
7. Click on Have Disk....
8. Install all the drivers listed on the screen. NOTE: You cannot install multiple drivers at the same time
9. When Windows95 prompts to restart select NO and repeat steps 2-8 to the rest of the drivers listed
10. When Windows95 prompts to restart select OK
How to play MPEG files:
1. Click on Start + Programs + Accessories
2. Click on Media Player + Device
3. Select MPEG from the drop down menu
4. Click on File + Open and choose your MPEG file
5. Click Play
