IBM IntelliStation/IBM PC - How to tell if the MAC Address Identifier is correct for LCCM
Applicable to: World-Wide
This document shows LAN Client Control Manager administrators how to tell if their LAN adapter MAC address identifier is correct for the NIC in the NETWORK.LST file.
In the NETWORK.LST file there is a section called Field 8. This field contains the MAC address identifier that is used when LCCM is scanning the network for PCs. This field must contain a unique set of MAC address ranges that single out a specific adapter type.
Let's say you have a combination of old and new IBM EtherJet PCI cards on your network. If the MAC addresses for your cards are:
12 34 56 78 90 11
12 34 56 78 99 99
98 76 54 32 10 11
98 76 54 32 11 11
In this case the Field 8 identifier needs 2 ranges:
Use 123456=1 for the first 2 cards.
Use 987654=1 for the second 2 cards.
