IBM PC/IBM ValuePoint - How to restore Master Boot Record and boot files in PC DOS

The Master Boot Record can be restored through any PC DOS prompt. Follow the steps below:

1. Boot computer with the first DOS diskette. The DOS diskette used MUST be the same version of DOS that is installed in order to get the same sys file. During boot process, you will see a blue IBM logo. Immediately after this screen, you will see a black screen with "Starting PC DOS..." in the top left corner.

2. Press the "F5" key at this screen to bypass the startup files on the diskette. This will take you to an A:\> prompt.

3. Run a current version of anti-virus.

4. To restore the Master Boot Record: At the A:\> prompt, type fdisk/mbr' and press "Enter" key. If you return to the A:\ prompt with out any messages, the MBR has been restored.

5. To restore the Boot files in PC DOS: At the A:\> prompt, type "sys c:" and press "Enter" key. After a moment you will see a message, "System transferred".

6. Remove diskette and reboot computer.
