IBM PC - IPX/SPX error using Windows for Workgroups

Symptom:
VP, VP-p, PC 300 and PC 700 systems may display an "IPX/SPX Connection Error" and a system hang condition while running Windows for WorkGroups 3.11 in a Novell Netware environment.
Problem Isolation Guidance:
During the installation of Windows for Workgroups, the protocol "IPX/SPX Compatible Transport with NetBIOS" is selected. As a part of the installation process, NWLINK.386 is included in SYSTEM.INI. NWLINK.386 is a new 32 bit IPX/SPX transport protocol driver shipped with Windows for WorkGroups. The problem is caused by NWLINK.386 not providing full IPX/SPX API compatibility for SPX based applications. The problem is documented by Novell in documentation ID TID021979.
Fix:
Install VIPX.386 in place of NWLINK.386. VIPX.386 is a virtual IPX/SPX driver that is included as part of Windows for WorkGroups. Microsoft is currently investigating the problem with NWLINK.386 and may be contacted if further assistance is required. The Microsoft service reference number for this problem is SRG950810955755.
